The Barbieri brothers formulated Aperol in 1919 in Padua, Italy. It was their aim to develop an Aperitif that was based on the bitter Italian tradition but lighter and more palatable. The combination of herbs, roots, and oranges eventually proved appealing to many people, especially in Northern Italy, where its moderate alcohol content and multi-flavored profile were perfect for the consumer.
The Birth of the Spritz

The Aperol Spritz is claimed by many to have taken a 19th-century background since, at that time, it’s said Austrian soldiers based in Italy would mix the Italian wines with soda water dubbed “Spritz.” Thus, this was a tactic to make the intense Italian wines more palatable. Eventually, over years of development, this simple mix turned into a fully developed cocktail. By the 1950s, Aperol was a fundamental component of what in modern times has been christened the Aperol Spritz; it marries Aperol’s classic tartness and sparkle and bubbly prosecco and some soda splash.

Cultural Relevance of the Aperol Spritz

The Aperol Spritz ad is set at lunchtime, hinting they relate to lunch more so since it is followed by the aperitif moment. The food, salad, and bread are moderately shown in the center of the scene while the Aperol Spritz is exaggeratedly put at the front. The commercial’s imagery suggests digestion, an aperitif in this case, and some repast are behind this advertisement. This is evident from the ad visuals that show the food, considered salad and bread, subtly set amidst the scene but are not in focus as is the Aperol Spritz that takes center stage. The Aperol Spritz ad images show that there is some lunch sitting in the corner of the frame while others are peripheral to this advertisement.

Aperol Spritz is more than a beverage today; it’s an experience. Whether with friends at home or in a crowded piazza, the drink carries with it a sense of the Italian “sweet life”: la dolce vita. More than simply a drink for the summertime, it is a drink for all seasons, and beverage choice in any mood, most suitable whether one has time in the evening or not. The interesting color, bubbles, and flavor would together make a perfect choice.

The refreshing beverage is now out from its Italian cradle and is enjoyed by numerous people all around the globe. Its very basic nature along with its aesthetic look has been helpful in most bars and restaurants around the world. Whether you’ve been imbibing cocktails for years or are still a neophyte in the world of aperitivos, an Aperol Spritz beckons the imbiber to chill out and enjoy- Italian-style.
